Uganda Mountain Climbing
Climbing mountain Rwenzori or “Mountains of the Moon” is a memorable
hiking safari for many hikers. Be it Uganda mountain biking trails,
trail running, hiking camping safari, or just a simple walking safari
holiday on the Rwenzori mountains will leave any mountaineer remembering
Uganda for what a wonderful hike adventure experienced on top of these
snow-capped mountains in East Africa
Ruwenzori Itinerary
Day One: Arrival at Entebbe International Airport. A member of
African secrets will meet you. Transfer to your hotel in Kampala - about
40 km away. Depending on your arrival time, a complementary sight tour
of Kampala City is optional. Overnight in Kampala.
Day Two: Leave Kampala and drive to the foothills of Rwenzori
Mountains in Kasese. Dinner and overnight at Hotel Margherita.
Day Three: After breakfast, transfer to Nyakalengija located at
about 1650 metres ready to embark on the mountaineering experience. Hike
along the Mubuku River as you head towards Nyabitaba hut at 2650 metres
for dinner and overnight.
Day Four: After breakfast, start the head towards the Kurt
Sharfer Bridge on River Mubuku, arriving at the Nyamuleju hut with views
of Mount Stanley and Mount Speke on to open grounds with lobelia and
heath moss forest as you approach the John Matte hut standing at 3415
metres for dinner and overnight.
Day Five: After breakfast, walk through lobelias and heath trees
on the ascent to the Bigo Bog and enviable layout of lobelias and giant
groundsels; bypassing Lake Bujuku. Continue to the Cooking Pot rock
shelter shortly before getting to Bujuku hut at 3960 metres for dinner
and overnight.
Day Six: The day will take you to the alpine vegetation of giant
groundsels and lobelia as you are set to reach Mount Victoria and Mount
Speke situated at 4890 metres. Enjoy the views of Savoia and Elena
glaciers before cutting across the Scott Elliott pass and on to Elena
hut at 4430 metres for dinner and overnight.
Day Seven: After breakfast embark on the conquest of the snow-characterised
Alexander peak situated at 5092 metres as a final springboard to overrun
the highest peak, Margherita, situated at 5109 metres. The entire world
is at your feet! A descent to 4020 metres will take you to Lake
Kitandara’s Kitandara hut for dinner and overnight.
Day Eight: After breakfast, embark on a major descent begins
towards Freshfield Pass with views of the Congo, finally coming to Guy
Yeoman hut at 3260 metres for dinner and overnight.
Day Nine: After breakfast follow the River Mubuku as you re-unite
with the original trail close to River Bujuku as you head towards
Nyabitaba hut at 2650 metres for dinner and overnight.
Day Ten: After an early breakfast and a 2-3-hour descent, you are
back on earth at Nyakalengija to reconnect with your lowland transport.
Drive on to Kampala to arrive late afternoon.
Day Eleven: Depending upon your flight details, you will be
picked up from your hotel by a representative of African secrets for a
transfer to the airport.
